Truth: I ignore my children

Truth #4

"Sometimes when I'm driving with the kids I turn up the radio really loud, open the windows, and scream "I can't hear you!" every time one of them tries to talk to me."

When I was little, and my siblings and I would run around the house complaning to our mother "Mom he did this" "mom she did that"...my mother would say "THAT IS NOT MY NAME" and go and do something calming. We always got the picture, and were none the worse for wear. She always listened when it was important

when the kids are acting especially trying i have been known to turn the volume on my headphones up to ear bleeding loud and keep replying "WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU. WHAT?"

Me too! Loud music has saved me many times.

I also have taken to saying "mum doesn't live here anymore" at night time when the kids won't settle, just so I don't have to take responsibility for them.

i find that kind of horrifying.

way to teach your kids it's okay to be rude to people and ignore them instead of teaching them that sometimes mommy needs a break, or to not interrupt you when you're on the phone, or whatever.

my mom somehow managed to teach us not to do the "he said she said" thing without pretending we didn't exist.
